Cuba Yoga Retreat & Outdoor Adventure

Thursday, December  28th - Tuesday, January 2nd 

Who wants to travel to Cuba and see the beautiful countryside, cities, old classic cars, colonial architecture, music, dance, and more? We know we do! We have partnered with Doc Ford's Cuba Expeditions which specializes in Cuba. We have arranged a personalized Yoga and Outdoor Adventure itinerary! On this retreat, you will have opportunities to practice Yoga in the morning and at night, hike caves, enjoy a 1940s spa with hot springs, mud baths, and massages, take a 5 mile hike through a nature preserve and biosphere, tour Viñales Valley, Las Terrazas (a sustainable community initiative), San Diego de Los Baños, and of course Havana! 

What about the new policy restrictions for travel to Cuba? We fully abide by the new policy restrictions for Educational: People-to-People travel. People-to-People travels involves not just doing tourist activities, but meeting Cuban people and to exchange, talk about life in the United States, learn about life in Cuba. We will meet restaurant owners, chefs, bed and breakfast owners, museum curators, lawyers, musicians, artists, farmers, and many other people within their element and expertise. 

We want you to experience Cuba in all of the ways possible!

 

Your trip includes: 

- Yoga (offered most mornings and afternoons/evenings)

- All indoor/outdoor excursions and admissions 

- All ground transportation while in Cuba (including airport pick up and drop off)

- Most meals (vegetarian and vegan options available)

- 5 nights in Hotels / B&Bs

- Depart from Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) on Thursday

- Return to FLL Tuesday

- Options for trip extension available

- Full guide service

Not included: Airfare from FLL to HAV (around $200 for airfare plus $50 Cuba Travel Visa Fee), gratuities for guides, driver, maids, additional spa services, some meals, etc.

Registration Information: Registration and $500.00 deposit (non-refundable) due by August 1st, 2017

First payment: $500.00 due by September 1st (non-refundable)

Second payment: $500.00 due by November 1st  

Final payment: Due in Cuba in local currency (USD) ($1250.00 single; $950.00 double per person)

Detailed Retreat Itinerary

Day 1 - Thursday

December 28, 2017

8:00am  Yoga at Yoga Aura 

10:00 Meet at Terminal 1 downstairs by Southwest Cuba check-in counter.

             Southwest Flight departs from FLL at 12:30 pm 

1:30     Arrival time in Havana  - One hour for custom’s procedures.

2:30    Depart for Artemisa and panoramic orientation to Cuba by guides in route

4:00    Arrive in Las Terrazas and Hotel Moka: Las Terrazas

  •      Fresh juices, fruit, and snacks waiting your arrival (included)

  •      Get checked in and settled

5:00     Depart on welcome orientation walking tour of complex grounds and introduction to some of the locals.

6:30     Yoga lead by Laurie

8:30     Private Paladar Restaurant: A paladar restaurant is a privately owned restaurant. The history of the paladares is very interesting and we will talk with these families and share culinary experiences.

               Continue social time

Day 2 - Friday

December 29, 2017

8:00     Yoga lead by Laurie (indoor or outdoor depending on weather)

9:30     Breakfast at El Balcón de las Tecas (traditional buffet-style breakfast and fresh juices) (included)

11:00    Nature Hike (5.5 miles) accompanied by a Kenny (local to the area) well-versed in the nature in the province. Discuss with him the types of flora and uses, medicinal and culinary, of the varieties grown wild and farmed.

 

Lunch on own: Cafetal Buenavista (view of both Northern and Southern coasts) or choose from a selection of other restaurants on grounds. (not included)

 

Afternoon excursion options:

  • Boat rides on lake – meet the locals

  • All natural perfume factory – meet the owners and talk about their process of perfume making.

  • Art and Artisan displays – meet the local artists and talk about their process of paper recycling and paint making.

  • Explore the Community – visit the home of Pollo Montañez, famous Cuban singer.

5:00     Yoga and Chakra balancing workshop (2 hour)

8:00     Group Dinner (Family style): Fonda de Mercedes (included) – meet the owners of the restaurant and have a chance to talk with them.

 

Evening Social time!

Musical guest to perform private show for us! – Open conversation about their life as musicians in Cuba.

Day 3 - Saturday

December 30, 2017

8:00     Yoga lead by Laurie

9:30     Breakfast at B&B

10:30   Check out and depart for San Diego de Los Baños – small historically-significant  town including a 1940s Spa.

11:30    Arrive.  

Afternoon:  El Balneario de San Diego. We will meet with the director of the bath house and he will give us a presenation on the alternative health care industry in Cuba. Additionally, we will be able to interact with the workers and discuss their role as well as our alternative health practices such as:

  • Hot mineral bath spa,

  • mud baths,

  • massages,

  • acupuncture

*Admission to Spa treatment center included. Additional services (massages, mud baths, acupuncture) available at additional cost. ONE FREE 30 minute MASSAGE for everyone.

Light lunch: (included)

 

3:00     Yoga workshop and practice (2 hour): We will introduce Yoga to the people in the town and discuss how Yoga has grown in the US. They will join in on a one hour session.

5:00     Depart for Viñales (1 hour)

7: 00    Make your own Mojito! Jorge, who is in somellier school, will discuss the history of the mojito and we can interact and ask questions about this typical Cuban drink.

8:30     Group Dinner (Family style): at a private restaurant.  We will meet the owners and have a chance to interact with them about the restaurant business in Cuba.

Day 4 - Sunday

December 31, 2017

8:00     Yoga lead by Laurie

9:30      Breakfast at Hotel (included)

10:30    Head out for 1.5 mile hike down open trails to Palmarito Cave. On the walk, our guide, Victor will discuss the vegetation and farming industry in Cuba.

-Enjoy fresh bananas and fruit from other fruit trees on way to one of the largest and most impressive in Latin America. Yoga chanting and meditation at the end of the cave.

 

2:00     Group Lunch (Family style): At Valle del Silencio Ranch (Whole Traditional Cuban Pig Roast. Vegetarian options).  (included)

 

- While on the ranch grounds, enjoy a guided-walking tour of fruit trees, cinnamon trees, the coffee plantation, a tobacco drying house and tobacco fabrication process discussion, cigar rolling presentation and workshop - roll your own Cuban cigar! We will interact with Alexis and his family about their three generation history of growing tobacco.

6:00     Return to Houses

Day 5 - Monday

January 01, 2018

9:00     Breakfast at house

10:00   Depart for Havana

12:00   Arrive at Old Havana – Explore Old Havana       

Walking tour of Old Havana. (many places not open due to holiday). We can walk Old Havana.  

  •         Plaza de Armas

  •         Castillo de la Real Fuerza

  •         Viceroy’s Palace

  •         Hotel Ambos Mundos (view of Havana) / Hemingway’s room

  •         Chocolate museum (an artisan chocolate store)

  •         Cuervo y Sobrinos watch store / Boutique shops

  •         Bodeguita del Medio

  •         Walk down Calle Obispo to the Parque Central

 

5:00     Musical Performance and meet the musicians! Talk with them about being a musician in Cuba and interact with the band.

7:00     Depart for Bed & Breakfast in east Havana (Cojimar) and get settled

9:00     Depart for Farewell Group Dinner: Las Brisas (included)

Day 6 - Tuesday

January 02, 2018

8:00      Yoga at the 1920s Mansion overlooking Cojimar Bay

9:30       Breakfast at B&B  - meet the owners of the property and talk with them about how the private enterprise works in Havana.

11:30      Depart for Airport

Southwest Flight FLL to HAV departs at 2:30 pm

Day 7 EXTRA DAY

January 02, 2018

Spend another day in Havana with our guides - explore more of Old Havana and interact with our Cuban friends. For only 350$ extra per person - spend an extra day! This includes guide service, transportation, lodging. Breakfast included. Lunch and Dinner are paid for on your own.
